As product manager for chemicals at South African Pulp and Paper Industry (Sappi), Dries van der Walt (sr) had a number of years' experience in advising municipalities and schools on water treatment. He was also involved in a number of projects where solutions had to be found for waste-water.

Dries and a partner started a company in 1985 that sold chemicals in large quantities, but a few years later Dries decided to sell his share of the company to his partner and to enter the swimming pool industry by offering weekly pool maintenance services. This was still a new industry at that time and a lot of research and product development had to be done. With his vast knowledge of water treatment and strong principles when it came to honesty and customer care, the business had to be successful.

In 2004 his son, Andries, joined the industry, but focused on the construction and renovation of swimming pools. Dries (sr)'s daughter, Marinda, managed her own company, called Pool Supreme which mainly offered weekly pool maintenance. She had this business for around ten years until she passed away on 1 September 2020. Andries's renovations company and Marinda's pool maintenance company were then merged and registered as Pool Supremacy (Pty)Ltd.

Andries gained a lot of experience since 2004 in the building and renovation of swimming pools. This 12 meter long marblite pool they built might be worth mentioning.
